“CLASSROOM OF THE CHICKS”

In the 2-year-old classroom, “The chicks”, we love to live experiences that stimulate our curiosity to discover the world, that develop our senses, language and our autonomy. Our natural need to play, to move freely and to express ourselves bodily is respected by our teachers, since they know that they are fundamental aspects for an adequate cognitive development, to know the possibilities of our body (we are discovering ourselves) and to learn to relate to our classmates.

The time in our class is very flexible, it passes without haste, we do things slowly, being aware of our body, of what we are doing and how we are doing it. It is important not to look at the clock when we are learning to do things ourselves, when we are working on habits of hygiene, order and autonomy. Our teachers adapt to our biological rhythms of rest, food and activity, and although we follow routines every day, our individual needs are respected.
We work daily on fine motor skills to exercise our fingers, thus improving coordination and precision of movements.

Skewering objects, attaching clothespins, exploding bubbles, opening padlocks, moving objects with Montessori tweezers, painting with various elements (fingers, brush, clarions, waxes, rollers, fruits…), gluing rubber bands… are some of the activities we do to train the hands.

All these activities are important to prepare us for graphomotor skills and later, reading and writing.

We work by centres of interest, that is, the activities revolve around a specific theme each time, which is always related to aspects of our daily life or to the knowledge of our body. Some of the centres of interest that we have worked on this course are “The chicks”, “Autumn”, “The food”, “The winter”, “Our body”.
