IES Abastos participated in the EU Hackathon project, which aimed to use hackathons as an innovative methodology to motivate vocational training students in STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Ecology). Students from the school took part in national and international competitions, designing creative solutions and applying real-world engineering processes. This participation strengthened their skills in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and computational thinking, along with transversal skills such as teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and gender equality in STEAM environments.
The collaboration was structured with institutions in Spain, Croatia, Italy, Romania, and Portugal, as well as with companies, universities, and associations. Each partner contributed their expertise in educational innovation, content development, and mentoring. IES Abastos stood out for its contribution in the area of digitalization and the practical application of disruptive technologies to the challenges presented. This collaboration fostered the creation of a transnational learning community with over 250 teachers and 500 students, establishing a sustainable network of Hackathon Clubs that continue to operate beyond the initial funding. For IES Abastos, it provided an opportunity to integrate the hackathon methodology into its vocational training programs, reinforcing its leadership in digital innovation.
