Area 2. Digital Resources
Educators are currently confronted with a wealth of digital (educational) resources they can use for teaching. One of the key competences any educator needs to develop is to come to terms with this variety, to effectively identify resources that best fit their learning objectives, learner group and teaching style, to structure the wealth of materials, establish connections and to modify, add on to and develop themselves digital resources to support their teaching.
At the same time, they need to be aware of how to responsibly use and manage digital resources. They must respect copyright rules when using, modifying and sharing them.
This area includes three competences related to the search, reuse, creation, and sharing of digital educational content respecting copyright and taking into account that its use will be developed in a specific educational context attending to the needs of all students.
2.1 Selecting digital resources
Description. To identify, assess and select quality digital resources to support and enhance teaching and learning. To consider, in a specific way, the learning objective, the context, the pedagogical approach, the type of license and technical aspects that guarantee universal accessibility, usability and interoperability.
2.2 Creating and modifying digital resources
Description. To modify and adapt the digital educational resources respecting the conditions of use (derivative works and limitations contained in the intellectual property rights) established by each license. To create new digital educational resources individually or in collaboration with other professionals within safe environments. To consider, in a specific way, the learning objective, the context, the pedagogical approach and the recipients when designing and creating or modifying digital resources. To select the digital author tools for the creation and modification of resources, taking into account the technical and accessibility characteristics, and the terms of use and the privacy policy.
2.3 Managing, protecting and sharing digital resources
Description. To organise digital educational resources and makes it available to the educational community and the professional community using safe environments. Effectively protects digital content. To respect and correctly apply the rules on intellectual property and copyright in the management and sharing of digital content.
