RFID Technology Applied to Industry 4.0 in the Textile, Clothing, and Leather Sector

This project, coordinated by IES Jaume I from Ontinyent, with participation from IES Cotes Baixes from Alcoy and IES La Torreta from Elda, is addressing the needs of students in the Textile, Clothing, and Leather family, as companies in this sector have demanded more up-to-date training that is closely aligned with their real needs. At the same time, it establishes connections between diverse fields such as robotics, logistics, transportation, and textile and clothing cycles.

Through the implementation of this innovation project, the aim is to teach the application and utilization of RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification) to manage stocks, inventory garments, and streamline logistical aspects for the distribution of textile products, footwear, and clothing. With this technology, inventories can be conducted in seconds, free of errors, and industrial processes can be monitored rapidly.

One of the most significant achievements of the project has been the generation of synergies among different professional families toward the Industry 4.0 transformation of the textile, apparel, and leather sector, significantly enhancing students’ digital competencies and soft skills that will facilitate entrepreneurship and employment in the sector. Collaboration is fostered by the fact that resources generated by all participating centers are shared.

This project serves as a wonderful example of how technology brings together objectives in seemingly unrelated fields of study, making education more engaging for students. Additionally, companies such as ETEXA, Mora SAI, MLS Textiles, and Gestiweb are now closer to this educational initiative, receiving students who are well-prepared and updated according to their needs.
