IMMERSIVE REALITY APPLIED IN PORT OPERATIONS

This education training applied innovation project has as objective to include the technology into the VET degrees program, Higher VET degree transport and logistic and international trading.

The immersive reality applied to vocational training students allows them to see the loading and uploading operations of containers in the port without leaving the classroom. This is an example of what the use emerging technologies though the innovation can mean for the educational world.

This is where the importance of educational innovation lies a commitment embraced by the CIPFP Ausias March and IES El Grau centres, both located in Valencia. They are coordinated by the centre of Excellence IES Pere Boïl in Manises, in collaboration with Valencia Port Foundation and the company Quaser Dynamics.

Through this project, titled INMERSIVE REALITY IN PORT OPERATIONS IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE, SEVERAL 360º 3D videos has been created where the students have actively participated in the organization and structuring of the videos to accurately depict the reality for subsequence exploration. The goal is to incorporate the result in the curriculum of the vocational training degree that they are undertaking.

The use of this technique facilitates the teaching-learning process while simultaneously reducing the travel cost for students and teachers to companies. It enables visits to hazardous work environments such as ship loading and uploading docks and hard-to-reach spaces during the training process in educational centres.

The collaboration among teachers from different centres has also boosted the students’ motivation and eased their transition into professional life. Bringing real-world experiences to student during the training process will enable them to enhance their employability and, in turn, reduce the training period within the company and its work environments.

A real example completely realistic and an immersive experience in first-person that will facilitate learning in an unconventional way.

At CIDA, we are committed to bring visibility to innovation projects like these.
