📢 Help the 5th class to save the African rainforest! “Mobilitza’t per la selva!”

The 5th grade students are collaborating with the Mobilitza’t per la selva program. From the English area, the class has prepared an outreach campaign to publicize their mission.

Posters, murals, videos and a collection point for old cell phones are part of their work in this learning situation.

Bring your used cell phone to the school entrance (there is a container box ready) and we will send them for recycling! Every 30 mobiles we will be able to sponsor a chimpanzee for a year! 🐒😍

“Mobilitza’t per la selva” is the cell phone recycling campaign that was born as an initiative of the educational program of the Jane Goodall Institute Spain. The objectives of this campaign are several and very important.

On the one hand, it seeks to raise public awareness about the impact of our way of consuming these electronic products. The high demand for coltan, cassiterite and other minerals to manufacture these devices has serious consequences in our environment and in the places of origin, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). There, the war for control of the mines has already caused more than 5 million deaths and almost 3 million refugees, as well as deforestation, pollution and the killing of endangered animals such as gorillas and chimpanzees.

On the other hand, it promotes the reuse and recycling of unused cell phones and tablets. This can prolong their useful life or that of their components and, when this is not possible, it promotes the correct management of waste. The fact that the materials can be reused in the manufacture of new devices reduces the need to continue exploiting mines such as those in the DRC.

The funds obtained from the recycling of the devices are destined to the development of educational and conservation projects in Africa, thus helping the communities, animals and ecosystems of an area highly affected by the exploitation of these resources.

Take your old cell phone to La Rambla!

TROBADAS 2024-AGOST

CEIP La Rambla had the honour of being chosen to host the 36th Meeting of Schools in Valencian de L’Alacantí, held on March 24 at El Rugló Park.

By 10:00 a.m. everything was ready to welcome the public. The bar for the 6th graders on La Rambla had cokes and drinks prepared, and families and teachers from 17 schools in Alicante, El Campello, Mutxamel, Sant Joan d’Alacant, Sant Vicent del Raspeig, La Torre de les Maçanes and Xixona they had set up their workshops.

CEIP La Rambla, thanks to its AFA, offered a magnificent pottery experience with the help of Severino Boix’s workshop. For its part, the August City Council offered workshops carried out by the Labora program and reported on the offer of guided tours prepared for this special day.

In addition, the offer was completed with wooden games, the fierceness of the book in Valencian and stalls of unions, associations and the UA.

At 10.30 a.m. the opening ceremony took place. Several authorities took part in it, the president of La Cívica, Marisol Pinilla Macías, Salvador Ribagorçana Chorro from the University of Alicante, the mayor and the councillor for Education of Agosto, Juan José Castelló Molina and María de la Pau Prieto Torres, and our Head of Studies, Ana Balaguer Gómez, accompanied by 6th grade students. This year’s motto was “Fem poble, parlem valencià”, which in addition to highlighting the importance and need to defend language in the classroom, put the spotlight on the people who, with their daily activism and regardless of their origin and condition, keep it alive.

And as it was the school festival of the Valencian language, the music could not be missing with the performance of the Muixeranga d’Alacant and the Colla de dolçaina i tabal la Taranina d’Agost, as well as the concert of Marcel el Marcià.

From La Rambla we want to thank the August City Council for getting involved from the beginning in this initiative, making teamwork so easy and contributing everything in their power to make the day a success.

See you at next year!
