On 13th October we went to the Ocean Race Museum in Alicante. The school trip didn’t start in the best way, since the tram we were travelling on broke down. We had to wait quite a while for the next tram and then we walked for about 25 minutes from Sangueta tram stop to the museum. That made us a bit impatient and weary, but we finally managed to arrive.
Once at the Ocean Race Museum, we completely immersed ourselves in the atmosphere of the competition. We had the opportunity to get close to the boats, and it was really impressive to see the details of their design and construction up close. We found it fascinating to notice the differences between the older and more modern boats; it really shows how much technology has evolved in this sport.
What surprised us the most was the attention that the teams pay to the weight of everything on board, optimising every gram. In addition, we were amazed to learn a bit about the living conditions of the crew members during the competition: how uncomfortable it is to rest, the lack of privacy, and the curious diet based on freeze-dried food.
We also had some free time to explore the museum, which had lots of interactive things to do. There were 3D glasses that made you feel as if you were inside the boat, and even a closed simulator that moved, made noises and had a big screen showing what it would be like to sail through huge waves. It was really cool and exciting!
After that, we took part in a gymkhana around the museum. We had to look for numbers hidden in different places and answer questions about what we had learned. It was a fun and interactive way to review the visit, and we really enjoyed it.
Finally, while we were waiting for the tram to arrive and go home, we recorded some stupid but funny clips for TikTok with our teacher Fran. The return trip was calm because we were a little bit tired, and we all agree that, despite the rough start, it was a very fun and interesting day.
