During the week of November 10th-16th, two teachers from IES Radio Exterior, Ángeles Piñeiro and Aitana De Toro, visited the Ullern Videregaende Skola Baccalaureate School in Oslo (Norway).
The main objective of the visit was to learn in depth about the Norwegian educational system and particularly its teaching methodologies of both foreign and Norwegian languages. On the other hand, our Erasmus coordinator and member of the management team, Aitana de Toro, had the opportunity to establish communication with the school Principal and with the coordinators of 2 vocational training studies to strengthen relations with the school and to be able to work in the future on collaborative projects, student exchanges or Erasmus+ projects.
On the other hand, the results of the visit and the meeting with the teachers were a success, not only because the objectives set were achieved, but also because new contacts with another school in Norway were established and we are currently working on collaborative projects with students from both schools.
With regard to the methodologies applied to the language classroom, the teachers had the opportunity to attend Spanish, English and Norwegian classes where they verified that active, participatory and small group methods are really effective for learning a language and, contrary to what the traditional school did, the longer the time spent in the practical classroom and the shorter the time spent on the grammatical parts, the more productive the result is.
Finally, we would have to thank and congratulate the coordinator of the visit during our stay in Norway, Jonathan García, for the treatment and kindness with which he hosted us and for his management throughout the process.
Without question, with experiences as valuable as these, we can all learn from each other and enrich both our personal and work paths, creating impact in our students and school at the same time.
