Last Thursday, 11 June, the 7th edition of Girls4STEM was held, an initiative aimed at encouraging STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) vocations among students and giving visibility to female role models in these fields.
The event featured the participation of Conchi Lillo, a biologist, neuroscientist, and science communicator on programmes such as Órbita Laika, who served as the patron for this edition. During the day, students, families, teachers, and experts had the opportunity to share experiences, reflect on the importance of science, and get to know different professional career paths linked to STEM disciplines first-hand.
In this context, IES Benigasló was honoured with the Special Jury Prize, a recognition that values the school’s involvement in the project, the quality of the video biographies presented, and the impact generated among the participating students, teachers, and families. The jury also highlighted the ability of the submitted work to foster scientific and technological vocations, reinforce students’ self-confidence, and promote the active participation of the entire educational community.
The award-winning video was produced by students Laia Aragó Castro, Paula Doñate García, and Olaya Adán Beltran, from Year 11 (4t d’ESO C), who represented the school at the awards ceremony held in Valencia. From IES Benigasló, we would like to congratulate them on their excellent work and the dedication shown throughout the project.
Likewise, we would like to express our gratitude to the rest of the Year 11 Biology students and the Year 12 (1r de Batxillerat) Human Biology students for the videos they produced about the researchers who visited our school: Inma López Almela and Pilar Domingo Calap. Their participation has allowed us to learn first-hand about inspiring professional experiences and to continue working towards an inclusive scientific education, where talent and curiosity know no gender.
