I have always believed that we are the sum of our decisions, and that—whether wise or not—they all help us grow as individuals.
Many years ago, I decided the time had come to leave the leadership team; with that decision, I irreversibly closed the door on ever being part of it again. Or so I thought.
Today, I look back, having tallied up my personal journey. That decision—which shut the door on returning to the principal’s office because I was convinced by the old adage that “sequels are never as good” (even without fully understanding why)—has now been thrown wide open. Time and experience work their magic; it turns out that what once seemed terrible isn’t so bad, and what seemed wonderful isn’t a universal cure-all, either. It is a matter of attitude—of living and learning.
Today, I introduce myself to the entire school community as the Principal of my school—a place that has been my second home for so many years. And while that is the official title of the role, I believe I will never stop feeling like the teacher—driven by true vocation—who first arrived at the school that is now my home.
I want to thank Pepe, María Luisa, and Daniel for everything I learned while serving on the team under their leadership. I also want to thank Esther and Eva—my current team—for the invisible bond that unites and complements us, as well as the entire teaching staff, José Antonio, and the families who have overwhelmed me with such heartwarming displays of affection.
Today marks the beginning of this “sequel”—though no one knows how long it will last or how easy or difficult it might be. I feel a mix of emotions, ranging from uncertainty to excitement, yet I am certain of one thing: the school is the sum of the decisions made by all of us who are part of it and who consider it our home.
