November’s Artist: Clara Peeters

This month we discovered Clara Peeters, one of the few women painters who managed to make a name for herself in the art world in the 17th century.

Clara was a Flemish artist who specialised in still life paintings, a type of art that depicts everyday objects: tables, plates, fruit, bread, glasses… But what stood out to us the most was her incredible attention to detail and her ability to paint tiny reflections on metal, glass, and liquids. She even hid her signature or self-portraits inside spoons and goblets!

Through her works, we’ve seen how art can transform something seemingly simple into something full of beauty, light, and symbolism. We also talked about the importance of giving visibility to women artists who, like Clara, were made invisible for centuries.

Her paintings have inspired us to look at the world more calmly and to notice the small details that often go unnoticed.
