ERASMUS HOST PROGRAMME IN SWEDEN

During the 2024–2025 academic year, our careers advisers, Mª Jesús Pérez and Mª Carmen Soler, took part in an Erasmus+ grant to undertake job shadowing in Sweden, co-funded by the European Union. This visit led to an Erasmus+ student exchange between IES Victoria Kent and Enskilda Gymnasiet. In January, we hosted eight Swedish students and two accompanying teachers for a week. They stayed with the families of eight Year 11 students from our school. We showed them around our school, explained our projects to them, and they attended classes with their ‘brothers and sisters’, as well as taking part in various workshops and activities. Thanks to the volunteer teachers who accompanied them on visits to Elche, Alicante and Santa Pola.
This experience has been very enriching for the participants, as they have learnt about some of the cultural differences between the two countries, and it has sparked their curiosity and eagerness for March to arrive so we can see each other again, this time in Stockholm.

See you soon!

RECEPTION OF GROUP MOBILITY FROM SALERNO (ITALY). KA121 SCH

During the week of 23–29 March, IES Victoria Kent welcomed a group of 14 students aged 16–17 from Salerno (Italy), accompanied by two teachers, who had the opportunity to stay with the families of our Year 16 students and enjoy a week of activities at our school.

It was a very enriching experience, both for the Italian students and for our host students, as well as for the entire educational community, as both students and teachers at our school who were not participating in the exchange were also able to share in the activities and experiences, contributing to the improvement of linguistic and cultural competence.

The Italian students had the opportunity to live alongside students of the same age and attend classes and activities, learning how our education system works and being able to compare it with their own. They also enjoyed various cultural visits, including: a guided tour of Elche; a visit to Alicante; a visit to Valencia and entry to the Oceanografic; and a visit to Clot de Galvany and Arenales beach, amongst others. Furthermore, on the final day they took part in a cooking workshop in collaboration with students from the basic vocational training programme, who also had the opportunity to benefit from this cultural exchange and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

All in all, it was a very intense and rewarding week, which helped to forge bonds with our Year 16 students who, two weeks later, would travel to Italy to complete the exchange. The week ended with a very moving speech from our students, the presentation of certificates and a tearful farewell, with everyone hoping to meet again.

A huge thank you to the Erasmus+ programme for making this kind of exchange possible, which not only helps to improve the personal and professional skills of those taking part, but also enriches their lives, allowing them to enjoy an unforgettable experience

GROUP MOBILITY KA121 SCH TO SALERNO (ITALIA)

During the week of 5–12 April, a group of 14 students from IES Victoria Kent travelled to Salerno (Italy), accompanied by two teachers, Almudena Ruiz (English and Erasmus coordinator) and Juan Carlos Jiménez (PE), to complete the exchange with the Italian students who had visited Elche during the week of 23–29 March.

Our students stayed with host families, with their host being the student they had previously hosted in Spain. As they already knew each other, the arrival in Salerno was very emotional. As we got off the bus, the Italian students, along with their respective families and some teachers, were waiting for us with the Spanish flag.

Throughout the week, our students had the opportunity to attend different classes at the school with their host students, enabling them to compare the two education systems and discover new approaches and methodologies. We also visited the school’s facilities, among which a room with 3D screens particularly caught our attention; there, they gave us a demonstration of how they taught different types of content across various subjects. Right next door, there was a radio studio, and we were also shown other areas such as the laboratory, the gym and the library, amongst others.

Throughout the week, our students were able to enjoy cultural activities such as visits to various museums in Salerno, a city tour and a visit to the cathedral, a trip to Naples, a visit to the town of Paestum – famous for its well-preserved archaeological remains – a visit to Pompeii, and a trip to Amalfi by ferry, where they also visited the cathedral and the paper museum. At the latter, several students were able to experience how paper was made in the past and created various scrolls.

On the final day, the Italian students organised a farewell event in the school’s main hall, with the presentation of certificates and the screening of a video they had prepared; they also read several speeches, which moved both students and teachers to tears. After two weeks together, everyone agreed that it had been a wonderful experience, one they would love to repeat and one they would carry in their hearts forever. Moreover, as they rightly said: “It wasn’t a goodbye, but a see you soon”, taking it for granted that they would meet again. Once again, a thousand thanks to the Erasmus+ programme for making this wonderful experience possible, one that both students and teachers will always remember. 😀
