On December 13, a group of 15 students from the Artemis Secondary School in Attica, Greece, accompanied by its director Marinetta Vasileiou and another Spanish teacher, made a brief visit to our center as part of the Erasmus + activities program. In it, the students gave a presentation about Greek temples and their deities and socialized with students from our center.
In March 2023, our colleagues Laura Gómez and Asunción Sellés carried out a job shadowing at the Pierre Medès Lyceum in La Roche Sur Yon, a village with an extensive neoclassical architectural heritage located in the Pays de la Loire (France) and closely linked to the Napoleon era. The teachers’ visit is framed within our Erasmus project 2022-1-ES01-KA121-SCH-000063301. The main objective was to share methods regarding orientation, inclusion and adaptation tasks for students. This visit also allowed them to get closer to a different culture and methodology, as well as comparing the way of working in both schools and to enhance effective communication in different ways.
Between March 26 and April 1, Laura and Asunción enjoyed a complete program of activities aimed at working with different groups of students. For example, they could observe the way of working with groups of young immigrants and absentees, and thus be able to acquire new tools that enrich their work, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of both educational methods. In addition, they could also meet the Principal and the Orientation board and understand the the overall academic mission of the school. Finally, our teachers had the opportunity to observe how School Nursing specialty works, given that it is not regularized in our country.
It was undoubtedly an enriching experience that will allow us to continue growing as a center and improve the teaching-learning work with our students.
From December 14 to 21, 2023, our school was visited by a group of teachers and students from the Liceé Pierre Mendès in La Roche sur Yon (France). After the reception and first contact with teachers and students of our center, they visited our facilities and a had tourist tour around Crevillente.
In the following days they visited several local companies such as Artesa, specialized in fabrics for shoes, bags and fashion accessories, and Imperial, a leader in the manufacture of rugs and carpets. In addition to several work sessions and recreational activities in the town, they visited the city of Alicante, with its castle, archaeological site, and contemporary art museum, and enjoyed a Christmas concert, as well as the town of Jijona, famous for the making of “turron”, a typical Christmas sweet that is exported all over the world. In Crevillente they also had the opportunity to learn about the natural environment of the mountains and the local sustainable development agency, where the actions carried out for environmental conservation were explained. And given the proximity of Christmas, the Spanish students explained Spanish Christmas traditions and accompanied them to visit the Nativity scene and see the Christmas decorations in the church square and the city centre.
CANON G BAND TRIP TO FONTENAY-LE-COMTE
The trip made by the Canon G Band, music band of the IES Canónigo Manchón de Crevillent from March 26 to April 1, 2023, was carried out within the framework of the Erasmus Program of the European Union (2022-1-ES01-KA121 -SCH-000063301), to the city of Fontenay-le-Comte (France), twinned with Crevillente.
The help and management of the Fontaney-le-Conte Jumelage Committee has at all times been crucial to be able to carry out this mobility successfully, as well as that of the Lycée Françoise Rabelais, which welcomed us into its facilities and prepared different musical and cultural events, within a very intense agenda, among which we can highlight the following:
Visit of students 1st Baccalaurate to Athénée Royal Institute, Brussels.
From 26th to 30th April, 2023, 12 students from the 1st Baccalaureate of Humanities and Social Sciences, accompanied by their teachers Juan Luis Martínez and Enrique Alfonso, participated in a mobility within the Erasmus+ programme together with the Athénée Royal Institute of Brussels 2 as a hosting institution.
There they visited some key institutions in the European Union, such as the European Parliament and the Hemicycle, and the landmarks of Brussels. Through joint debates and colloquiums between the students and teachers of the two schools, they learned about and reflected on the creation of the European Union, its stages, treaties, its role in democracy, in fundamental freedoms, peace and the State of Law for more than half a century, as well as the challenges that it will have to face in a global world.
Although before the visit the students worked on all these topics in class, the experience helped them to learn about them first-hand, develop a critical spirit and promote social relationships between students from different countries, as well as many other social skills that this type of mobility involves.
Visit of students of IES Canónigo Manchón to Artemis Secondary School (Arttica- Greece)
From 26th March to 1st April, eleven students from our school of the 1st year of Bachillerato (16-17 years old) took part in a Eramus+ mobility project. All of them were highly motivated to take part in this project and had a good level of English, which was the main language used to communicate and interact with Greek students, teachers, and local guides during their staying in Athens.
In this project students were provided with the opportunity to learn about the legacy of the Greek culture and to gain an overview of significant people, places and events from Ancient Greek, its achievements and influence on politics, science, education, philosophy and the arts. This also helped them to develop critical and creative thinking and to extend confidence and mastery of the English language through interaction and spoken communication.
On our first day, Greek students from Artemis Secondary School welcome us with a traditional Greek breakfast. That gave students the chance to meet and interact with foreign students using gestures, body language and English language, as well as tasting and enquiring about the eating habits of Greek people and experiencing a vast range of things away from their comfort zone in a new environment. From the very first moment, Greek and Spanish students felt comfortable with each other and interact in a lot of ways, which helped them both to understand different cultures with respect. On the second day, students could learn about the differences and similarities of Greek and Spanish educational systems, as students from both schools had prepared a PPT presentation and videos to explain that to their peers.
The following days, apart from our visit to school in the morning, we visited some of the most famous landmarks in Athens, like the Acropolis, with a guided tour, the Artemis Brauron archaeological, site, the National Gallery, and the Museum of Cycladic Art. Therefore, they could understand the importance of the landmark of the Acropolis as the icon of European culture and a symbol of the beginning of Western civilisation, learn about Greek architecture, social structure, religion and myths and find out the ways ancient civilizations depicted their gods and heroes, their myths, their daily life and death in detail.
On our last day at Artemis School, our students got engaged in a lively outdoor activity (treasure hunt) which involved interaction, team-work and problem-solving skills. Through this they learned about Greek philosophers, myths and religion. These activities also enhanced problem-solving skills and creative thinking, promoted social interaction and cooperative work through physical exercise and movement and increased the value of teamwork and the appreciation of other people’s skills to get a common goal. Our visit finished with an evening dinner in a local restaurant which Greek and Spanish students really enjoyed, took photos and most of them exchanged their Instagram accounts to keep in touch in the future. It was a successful experience for all of us and we are looking forward to welcoming them in our town.
Visit to Artemis Secondary School, Attica (Athens)
The purpose of the brief visit of two teachers from CANÓNIGO MANCHÓN SECONDARY SCHOOL, Vicente Serna – Department of Philosophy – and Rubén Morata – Department of English, has been to define and agree on the general objectives of the visit of students of 1º BAT from our school from 27th to 31st March, with Greek colleagues from the Greek school.
The activities both schools are sharing there (presentations, classes, gastronomic day) and the visits that will be organised once they are there have also been detailed. In addition, Greek colleagues will become our guests, as they are planning a visit to Crevillent after ours.
For the teachers who have been to Attica, the experience has been very satisfactory and they believe that the objectives have been achieved, partly thanks to the enormous help they have received from the Greek teachers, to whom they are very grateful.
The students of the Lycée François Rabelais visit us
A group of 23 students of Vocational Training (9 from Business Administration and 14 from Electromechanical Maintenance) and 8 teachers from Lycée François Rabelais, in Fontenay-le-Comte, have visited our school and they have practiced in our classrooms and workshop classrooms, from the 17th to the 28th October, as part of the Erasmus Programme.
FIRST ERASMUS EXIT FOR OUR STUDENTS
Last week from March 5 to 11, 2022, a group of 8 students and two second-year teachers of the Electromechanical Maintenance training cycle were doing an internship in the workshops of the Lycée François Rabelais in Fontenay-le-Comte, town twinned with our town (Crevillent).
