REPORT ON THE MOBILITY TO COMO (ITALY) FROM DECEMBER 19TH TO 22ND, 2022
The teachers from the high school I.E.S. Número 26, Isabel Vañó and Andrea Martínez
(from the English and History departments), took part in a mobility activity within the
school’s Erasmus+ Project in Como, Italy, where we experienced the day-to-day life of the
Istituto Comprensivo Como Regio from December 19th to 22nd, 2022.
This school is located in the town of Como, in northern Italy, with a population of around
600,000 inhabitants. As a curiosity, Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the electric battery, was born there. Como is considered one of the wealthiest areas in Italy, although the school
itself is situated on the outskirts of the city, and the students come from diverse economic
and cultural backgrounds.
The school offers two educational levels: primary (ages 6 to 10) and lower secondary (ages 11 to 14), with a total of 765 students. The school’s management team is led by the headteacher, Giuseppinna Matrone, and four teaching staff members who perform duties similar to those of academic coordinators in our system. One of them, Maurizio Coda, guided us throughout our stay. We also met the person in charge of the school’s projects, Monica Frigerio.
Regarding the structure of the institution, it comprises three levels: preschool (located in
another building), primary, and lower secondary. In primary school, students are between 6
and 11 years old, while in secondary school, the age range is 11 to 14. Unlike our system,
there are no equivalent grades to the 3rd and 4th levels of ESO. The staff consists of 120
teachers and 765 students. The school day runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in secondary
education and until 12 p.m. in primary education. Classes last 60 minutes, with two breaks
every two periods. Students do not go outside to a playground but instead remain in the
hallways during breaks.
The students of Istituto Comprensivo Como Regio consistently show great respect for their teachers and peers, as well as a high level of participation. For example, at the beginning of each class, they stand up to greet the teacher or any adult entering the room. Another remarkable observation was that mobile phones were never used. School uniforms are mandatory in primary education. The conditions and duties of teachers on supervision duty are similar to ours.
The keys to all classrooms are kept in a box in the corridor, visible to everyone, which is something uncommon in our schools. Since this academic year, teachers have been using a digital platform very similar to Ítaca (Axios).
Regarding disciplinary measures, families are digitally informed about any incidents, which are also reflected in the evaluation sessions held every four months. In these
meetings, students receive comments for each subject along with a numerical grade. The Istituto Comprensivo Como Regio is very interested in starting Erasmus+ and
eTwinning projects. They have also participated in other Job Shadowing projects with
schools in Finland and England.
Furthermore, the school has received funding for ICT projects, including 3D digital printing, which we had the opportunity to try out. Without a doubt, it was a very rewarding experience for us, and we hope to stay in touch.

IINFORME SOBRE LA MOBILITAT A COMO (ITÀLIA) DEL 19 AL 22 DE DESEMBRE DE 2022
Les professores de l’I.E.S. Número 26, Isabel Vañó i Andrea Martínez (departament d’anglés i història) realitzem una mobilitat, dins del Projecte Erasmus + del centre, a Como, Itàlia, on vam estar vivint el dia a dia de l’Istituto Comprensiu Como Regio del 19 al 22 de desembre de 2022.
Este centre està localitzat en la localitat de Como, en el nord d’Itàlia, amb una població de 600.000 habitants. Com a curiositat, Alessandro Volta, l’inventor de la bateria elèctrica va nàixer ací. Como és considerat una de les àrees més riques d’Itàlia. encara que el centre es localitza als afores de la ciutat i l’alumnat té diferents nivells econòmics i culturals. S’impartixen dos nivells d’ensenyança: primària (de 6 a 10 anys) i secundària (d’11 a 14 anys), amb un total de 765 estudiants.
De la gestió del centre s’encarrega un equip encapçalat per la directora (Giuseppinna Matrone) i 4 membres del professorat que exercixen funcions que ací se solaparien amb la de cap d’estudis. Un d’ells és Maurizio Coda, qui ens va guiar durant la nostra estada. També vam conéixer a la responsable dels projectes del centre, Monica Frigerio.
Respecte a l’estructura del centre, hi ha tres nivells: infantil (situat en un altre edifici), primària i secundària. En primària, l’edat de l’alumnat era de 6 a 11 anys, mentres que en secundària el rang d’edat era d’11 a 14. A diferència del nostre sistema, no existixen els cursos equivalents a 3r i 4t de l’ESO. La plantilla es compon de 120 professors i 765 alumnes. L’horari del centre comença a les 8 fins a les 14 en secundària i fins a les 12 en primària. Les classes duren 60 minuts i hi ha dos descansos cada dos sessions. Els alumnes no ixen al pati exterior, es queden en els passadissos.
Els alumnes i alumnes de l’Istituto Comprensiu Como Regio mostren en tot moment un gran respecte pel professorat i els companys i companyes, així com un alt grau de participació. Un exemple d’això és que en començar la classe s’alcen per a rebre al professor o a qualsevol adult que entre a l’aula. D’altra banda, ens va cridar l’atenció el fet que no s’utilitzara el mòbil en cap moment. L’uniforme és obligatori en primària.
Les condicions i funcions del professorat de guàrdia són similars a les nostres. Les claus de totes les aules es troben en un caixetí del passadís a la vista de tots, cosa poc comuna en els nostres centres.
El professorat compta amb una aplicació informàtica des d’este curs molt similar a Ítaca (Axios).
Respecte a les mesures disciplinàries del centre, les famílies són informades digitalment de les incidències que puga haver-hi i es veu reflectit en les sessions d’avaluació que es realitzen cada quatre mesos. En elles, els alumnes reben comentaris de cada assignatura juntament amb la nota numèrica.
L’Istituto Comprensiu Como Regio està molt interessat a iniciar projectes Erasmus+ i Etwinning. També han participat en altres projectes de Jobshadowing amb centres de Finlàndia i Anglaterra. D’altra banda, l’institut compta amb una subvenció econòmica per a projectes TIC, entre ells la impressió digital 3D, la qual vam tindre oportunitat de provar.
Sens dubte, va ser una experiència molt gratificant per a nosaltres i esperem seguir en contacte.
