Aspe’s Giants and Bigheads have come to visit us! Giants and big heads are characters that appear at festivals in many towns and cities in Spain and other countries. Giants are very tall figures that a person carries from inside and makes them dance to the rhythm of music. Big heads have very large heads and chase people around to make them laugh.
These characters are made of materials like cardboard and wood and wear colorful clothing. Sometimes, giants represent important figures from the history or culture of each place.
This tradition is very old and began many centuries ago. In the Middle Ages, giants already paraded at some festivals.
Today, giants and big heads continue to entertain people at many popular festivals. If you see them in a parade, don’t forget to greet them and dance with them!
