Reader Mentoring

Our school encourages reading as a basic aspect of personal growth and enrichment. Together with the use of the library and the book loan program, we carry out the Reader Mentoring project.

This is an activity that aims to improve students’ linguistic competence, while also promoting social competence.

The project prepares the students of the upper courses, so that they become mentors of the students of the lower courses, thus sharing moments of reading in common and carrying out other activities in groups.

Thus, during the six years that make up the Primary Education stage, a child will have fulfilled the role of mentored for three years, and mentor for the next three.

On the other hand, during the academic year it is common to organize theater performances and other dynamic activities, between the elderly and the young, within the framework of promoting reading.

The interlevel organization of the project is as follows:

  • The 4th grade students are mentors to the 1st grade students
  • The 5th grade students are mentors of the 2nd grade students
  • The 6th grade students are mentors of the 3rd grade students

Therefore, through this project an improvement of the reading capacity is implemented, at the same time that it contributes to develop the interpersonal relationships of the students of our school, and the approach between children of different ages.

For the older ones, it means assuming a responsible and exemplary role as good readers, and for the little ones, it means a good mirror in which to look and learn.
