1 I don't approve of borrowing.
2 May I borrow your pen?
3 He's always borrowing from his friends.
4 I borrowed this book from my uncle.

The fundamental difference between borrow and lend is expressed in sentence 4 and lend, sentence 4: we borrow something from someone; you borrow things from the owner, but, seen from the other side, the owner lends you things/lends things to you.

☣️ Problem: He borrowed that pencil from me. (NOT He borrowed me that pencil.)

2 Banks lend money.
4 My uncle lent me this book/lent this book to me.
